   Dr. U. S. Sharma

Prof. Uma Shanker Sharma, the son of Shri D. L. Sharma and Smt. Jhamku Bai ji, was born on 30th August, 1954 in a farmer family in village Sisarma located near to Udaipur. He completed his early education in village Sisarma and later in Udaipur city. He got his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in the year 1976, Masters in Agriculture Science with specialization in Entomology in 1980 from the prestigious Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Sukhadia University, Udaipur. Later he completed his Doctoral Research and was conferred Ph. D. in the year 1988 from Rajasthan Agriculture University, Bikaner.

Services:

Prof. Uma Shanker Sharma joined his services as Lecturer (Research) at Agriculture Research Station (Durgapura), Jaipur in the year 1981 and accomplished remarkable work on white grub. He joined as Assistant Professor on 5th November, 1984 at SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner and worked in Fruit Project during 1984-85, thereafter transferred at RCA in the Department of Entomology during 1985. Dr. Sharma promoted on the post of Associate Professor on 5th November, 1997. He was designated as Professor on 5th November, 2005 and retired from his university services on 31st Aug., 2014. During his 34 year of dedicated services he performed commendable work in teaching, research and extension fields of Entomology. He guided 5 Ph.D.'s and 16 M.Sc.'s students. Besides contributing 137 publications which include research papers, books, book chapters, manuals, extension articles, etc., he also delivered scientific lectures in international and national seminars and conferences. He also rendered actively his services in university administration and acted as Programme Officer of NSS during the year 1989-2006 and also performed as Assistant Dean, Student Welfare (ADSW) from 2008-2013.

Research Projects:

During his tenure Prof. Sharma successfully conducted 06 research projects as Principal Investigator and 06 as Co-Investigator. The prominent among these were focused on Economic Entomology, pest management, Insect biosystematics, mites management, bio control, silk worm, etc. He also contributed in development of two varieties of groundnut and one of Sawa.

Recognition:

Prof. Sharma's contribution in the field of agriculture, teaching and extension is well recognized at national and international levels. He was felicitated for his remarkable contribution in the University for three consecutive years in 2002, 2003 and 2004. He was also felicitated and received Fellowship of "Rajasthan Council of Educational Administration and Management” in the year 2001 which is affiliated with Commonwealth Council of Educational Administration and Management. His contribution was internationally recognized for his contribution in spiritual life by Global Open University, Milan (Italy) for which he was later felicitated by the Governor of Gujarat on 10th February, 2003. He attended international conference held at Paris, France in July 10-12, 1989. Also visited Nepal during 1992 when he participated in National Integration Camp of NSS held at Darbhanga, Bihar. Additionally, he is member of more than 10 educational societies. Under his able guidance as a University Co-ordinator of youth parliament competition, a team of the MPUAT students got first prize & trophy at national level by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, New Delhi.

Leadership:

The incredible leadership capability of Prof. Sharma is well known. He was actively engaged as General Secretary in the "Sangharsh Samiti" for establishment of MPUAT at Udaipur and also performed a leading role in keeping the Fisheries College with MPUAT at Udaipur. He was President of MPUAT Teacher Association for more than 6 years and struggled hard to get delivered the long awaited career advancement benefits to the university teachers at the government and judiciary level. Presently all the pensioners of MPUAT also trusted and elected him as President of MPUAT Pensioners Welfare Society during September, 2015 after his retirement.

 

He has been an Hon'ble Member of the BoM and selection committee of SKRAU, Bikaner for two years (2006-2008) and is presently too acting as BoM Member in Agriculture University, Jobner and Rajeev Gandhi Tribal University, Udaipur. Also member Executive Council of Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind (Haryana).

 

He is always willing to provide his services to the farming community, social service, educational society and to help the students.
